I got out of bed to close the shutters because the moon was shining in the room and then I ran to get my camera. I took several reference pictures from the 2nd story window and then painted this impression. Research indicated the first full moon in March is called the Worm Moon because in the Northern Hemisphere it is the start of Spring and the worms begin to move in the thawing ground.

As a young girl Barbara would visit a secluded site in the woods neighboring her upstate New York home to observe and sketch birds in their natural habitat. She attended the State University of New York at New Paltz and the University of New York at Albany. At New Paltz, Barbara studied under George Wexler and Sheldon Schoenberg whom she credits with teaching her the fundamentals of drawing (Prof Schoenberg told his students if they couldn’t learn to “see” they would never be artists.)
