This is one scene painted of the Helderberg Escarpment about 10 miles west of Albany, New York. The escarpment is part of the Allegheny Plateau and the dramatic cliffs rise about 1000 feet from the valley below. Although I grew up in the valley below and spent a lot of time on the trails in the park, it was not until I was enrolled in a geology class in college when we took a field trip to the site and I learned much more about the significance.
Welcome to my website. I hope you will enjoy my work as much as I do creating it. The following is a brief art biography – Barbara Moak Barbara has always loved art. As a young girl Barbara would visit a secluded site in the woods neighboring her upstate New York home to observe and sketch birds in their natural habitat. She attended the State University of New York at New Paltz and the University of New York at Albany. At New Paltz, Barbara studied under George Wexler and Sheldon Schoenberg whom she credits with teaching her the fundamentals of drawing (Prof Schoenberg told his students if they couldn’t learn to “see” they would never be artists.) She credits this with providing her the foundation for her paintings. While...
